Next Stop: YA Bookshelf

May 25th, 2013, 11:52 am

Having left Middle Grade Mafioso — I”m headed to YA Bookshelf for an insightful review of Nobody’s Secret.   Melissa talks about Emily’s narrative voice and her authorial voice.  And suggests that Nobody’s Secret is a perfect way to be introduced to Emily’s poetry. I have to agree!

Check out the blog here.

One of Emily’s poems –

Wild nights – Wild nights!
Were I with thee
Wild nights should be
Our luxury!
Futile – the winds -
To a Heart in port -
Done with the Compass -
Done with the Chart!
Rowing in Eden -
Ah – the Sea!
Might I but moor – tonight -
In thee!

Read My Breath Away reviews Nobody’s Secret

First — I love this title for a blog! Secondly, I loved the review. Jessica is a university student in Canada and she brings an interesting perpective to her reviews.  She liked Nobody’s Secret’s for all the reasons I hoped she would — (I would love to list, but it’s just too self-serving! Read it here) but she also spent some time talking about Emily Dickinson’s mother. Jessica thought it was refreshing to see a parental figure portrayed in a positive light (or at all! So many books for kids do away with the parents altogether).  I love love love when a reviewer makes me look at my work in a new way. So thanks Read My Breath Away!
