The YaYaYas at Kirkus take on Prisoners in the Palace
February 24th, 2011, 9:31 pmWhat would it take for you to write for kids?
February 11th, 2011, 9:46 pmAccording to Martin Amis — only a catastrophic brain injury would lead him to write for kids. He said “I would never write about someone that forced me to write at a lower register than what I can write.”
Needless to say this infuriated UK kidlit authors… my favorite response was from John Dougherty who said, “Don’t worry Martin. We can’t all be imaginative and versatile.”
I love how this community is so passionate about its’ work. Read the whole article here.
Valentine’s Day – Victorian Style
February 9th, 2011, 1:22 pmThanks to Victoriana Magazine, I now know what a Victorian Valentine’s Day party might be like. You could have a Reminiscence Party — husbands had to write on a card everything they remembered about their wives’ wedding gowns. The cards were then read out loud to the group and much hilarity ensued when the wives made their corrections. A 19th c. version of the Dating Game!
I also liked the Bird Party — where every couple came as different birds (as designated by their hostess) — birds who mate for life of course.
